Strecth Island Fruit Co. Fruit Strips

Depending on your age, you might have some fond memories of unfurling those foot long fake fruit strips. "Fruit by the Foot" and "Fruit Roll Ups" were sugar and colorant laced fun. However, once you make the leap into a more wholesome diet, even the lure of sweet tongue tattoos can't make the fruit wraps seem worth it.

Thankfully, more natural products are on the market. While they can't be unwound or decorate your tongue, you can feel a lot better about eating them. Stretch Island Fruit Co. is giving health conscious kids and adults a delicious alternative.

These strips come in a variety of flavors. I have tried a few, and I like them all. I prefer the strawberry one best, but the pictures are of the orchard cherry.

The orchard cherry does have a tangy cherry taste that tends to grow after the initial bite. You can get the hints of apple and orange, which I suppose they use for their sweet properties. However, the additions do not make it overly sweet. The texture is similar to other fruit leathers, not tough like jerky, but it is toothsome. My only complaint is that I would like the cherry flavor to be stronger.

Nutritionally, there is not a whole lot to these. Mostly, they are sugar (natural), vitamin C, and potassium. As for the ingredients, they are non-gmo and gluten free. However, I am not sure about the "natural black cherry flavor with other natural flavors."  I would like to be able to read the list and it only be fruit, but compared to the Fruit roll ups, it is a much cleaner list.

You can buy 8 strips in one box for about four dollars, which is about 50 cents a strip. To me, this is a very reasonable price. In general, I enjoy these for a sweet snack and little boost of energy. I would like to see an ingredients list with just fruit purees. But, I do recommend these fruity strips for their well-rounded flavors and snackability.
